Team-building with colleagues: it doesn’t always have to be paintballing or kayaking; you can also opt for TeaMplay at M. Exciting, fun – and you’ll learn something, too. Loes Hubrechts, account manager Events, explains.

Working puzzles with the boss: now that’s something else for a change

Loes Hubrechts, accountmanager evenementen

“There is a real demand for team-building events that also have a substantive side. That’s why we developed TeaMplay: you visit the museum with your colleagues, and along the way you play a game together. We tailor each event for the group and no prior knowledge of art is needed. And, of course, there is a guide to accompany you.”

“The game itself revolves around the question of how to read images – visual literacy, as it’s called. Every facet, from your own personality to the lighting in the museum, plays a role in how you look at images, and during the activity you master this playfully. Afterwards, you will be better able to grasp the content and message of an image. Not unimportant in this day and age, because we are all bombarded with images every day. Also in our working environment.

“It is a very interesting way of getting to know your colleagues better. We all have our own background and personality, and that also means that we will interpret images in our own unique way. That often produces surprising insights – about the image, but also about the colleague.”

BEYOND THE COMFORT ZONE

“You also pick up skills here that you can use at work straightaway. How can you use art to tell a new story about your company or organisation? How do you find out how others look at your organisation? That’s what we’re going to work with.”

“Of course, it’s always a bit outside your comfort zone. Normally, you and your colleagues are in a more formal context, and you mainly communicate about your work. Then suddenly you’re working puzzles with your boss – now that’s something else for a change (laughs). We often see that the start is a bit more difficult, but towards the end of the activity, everyone interacts in a natural way and laughs a lot. And they take that back to the workplace.”

Our TeaMplay also works well for new teams, or for teams that are scattered around the world and normally only communicate with each other virtually. That’s why we also offer it in French and English.”

TIME FOR TIME

M’s collection presentations change regularly. This means that we also have to constantly adapt and adjust the game. But it also provides new possibilities every time. For example, there is now a collection presentation that is called ‘Take your Time’. Its central theme is the role that time plays in art and the experience of art. This is a starting point for us to talk about how organisations deal with time, and how you experience time with your colleagues.”
