Accessibility

Accessibility

We make sure our exhibitions are accessible to everyone.

Visitors with reduced mobility

M is fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. All halls on the floors can be reached by lift. The garden, the café and the toilets are also accessible by wheelchair.

Wheelchair users are taken into account when setting up the exhibitions. We ensure that you have the space to manoeuvre easily through the set-up, and that the display cabinets are at the right height and that wheels can fit under them.

There are also wheelchairs available for our visitors. Please book in advance via reservaties@mleuven.be or +32 (0)16 27 29 29.

Blind and partially sighted visitors

We provide a simplified and extra-large visitor plan which you can pick up at the reception.

For our room texts, we choose an easily readable font that contrasts strongly enough with the background. We also ensure that the rooms are sufficiently lit, although we must of course take into account that some works of art are sensitive to light. You can also find all the texts that are used during your visit digitally.

Our wall texts have all been recorded and you can listen to them via the museum’s audio guides (which you can pick up at the reception), or online.

There are also guided tours for blind and visually impaired visitors organised. We then describe the works of art, and where possible hand out gloves so that you can touch the objects. You can book these tours via reservaties@mleuven.be or +32 (0)16 27 29 29.

Visitors with dementia

For people with dementia, we offer a tour focusing on stories, emotions and sensory experience. We pay particular attention to works of art that correspond to the living environment and interests of the participants. The dialogue and interaction with the guide are central.

You can book a guided tour at reservaties@mleuven.be or +32 (0)16 27 29 29.

Visitors with an Autism Spectrum Disorder

There is a step-by-step plan to prepare your visit to M available on the site of Tourism for Autism.

Other groups

On request, we also organise tours for other group such as schoolchildren with mental disabilities or those learning Dutch.

You can ask questions about this via reservaties@mleuven.be or +32 (0)16 27 29 29.

Make sure to bring along valid proof - UiTPAS with the concessionary rate or a confirmation e-mail from Iedereen Verdient Vakantie.

Assistance and therapy animals

Approved assistance and therapy animals are welcome along with you during your visit to M.

Enchanté

M Leuven is one of the ‘Hartelijke Plekken’ of nonprofit organisation Enchanté. This means that the museum offers a number of services and facilities free of charge. People in need can freely use M's wifi, toilets, baby changing station, piano, first aid kit and AED device.

At Barbóék in M you can also treat someone who has a little less to a cup of coffee. You can buy the coffee at the bar, where we’ll leave a card wit an Enchanté-heart. Someone else can then exchange the card for a coffee. With the same system you can donate a ticket to someone else at the museum reception for € 3. People who want to make use of the ticket can collect the cards at the reception desk. Together we’re bringing culture a little closer to people in need.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

M joined Hidden Disabilities Sunflower - a globally recognised symbol to indicate that you have a hidden disability. This lets people know that M recognises this initiative and that its reception staff and visitors' know how to react when someone is wearing a keycord.
